To develop knowledge and application of wikis within the middle school English Language Arts classroom to promote collaboration, writing, and critical thinking skills.
Prerequisite Knowledge:
Basic knowledge of Wikispaces.
Content:
The meaning of the Hawaiin word "wiki," is quick. Wikis are just that. They are provide a quick way to post and share material with others who then can edit and revise the content as necessary. Wiki in the middle school English Language Arts classroom? Yes. By implementing wikis in the classroom, students are able to engage in deeper revising and editing (which promotes stronger writing development of content) in addition to collaborating, and apply concepts that demonstrate critical thinking. Today's workshop will engage participants in the use of wikis (Wikispaces) in the middle school English Language Arts classroom. In addition, participants will provided with some planning time to create a Wikispace activity based upon current concepts in the classroom for student use. Finally, the workshop will conclude with a daily evaluation.
Objectives of the Lesson:
By the end of Day 5, participants will be able to:
Possess a larger understanding of the various operations within Wikispaces.
Recognize, understand, and apply various ways that Wikispaces can be utilized in the middle school English Language Arts classroom.
Transform teaching practices through the use of Wikispaces to promote deeper writing development, collaboration, and critical thinking within the middle school English Language Arts classroom.
Create and develop activities that utilize Wikispaces within the middle school English Language Arts classroom and at home.
Engage in self evaluation and workshop evaluation.

Once all members have completed their portion of this task (I will leave a note for everyone within The New Tale of Little Red Riding Hood wiki page), you are going to engage in same revising and editing (comments) and PQP task that you did in Activity 2. Why? Again, the more we write the better authors we become, and if we preach that to our students, experiencing first hand how wikis promote deeper writing development, revising and editing, and collaboration is key to becoming experts in this wiki area.
If you need to review how to make comments or create a PQP, please see Activity 2: Steps 4: A-C. The only difference is that you will be creating your comments (3) and PQP (1 for each member) on Little Red wiki page.
